Operation: Ugly Ramp Demo

Project #2

The previous owners of the house added this ramp on the side porch for accessibility and by the time we got possession, the poor ramp was a deteriorating eye sore.

It was gone within a month.

Demo Day

Pete had been working on something else when I decided that was IT for the ramp. I couldn’t look at it anymore and it HAD to be gone. TODAY. “Do we have a sledge hammer? I’m going to destroyyyyy it. Muahahaha.”

Rolling his eyes and humoring me, he handed me a sledge hammer and said, “have at it.” I’m pretty sure this sledge hammer belonged to Thor because holy moly – can you say heavy?! I gave it some good effort, but I couldn’t even control the hammer enough to give a swing that did any damage. It was pretty pathetic.

When it’s more work than you thought it would be…

Of course it didn’t take long for me to ask Pete for help – which actually means I handed him the hammer, he paused whatever project he was already in the middle of, and tore the ramp down himself. I cheered him on from the sidelines and took pictures.

My other contribution was picking up the pieces and carrying them to the burn pile on the other side of our yard. And that took a while. The thing was massive, k? Pete told me there wouldn’t have been as much cleanup if I would have just let him hook the ramp to the four wheeler and then drag the whole thing to the burn pile in one fluid maneuver. But that wouldn’t have been nearly as exciting. Sometimes it’s more fun to work harder, not smarter. And you get better photos that way!

Once the pieces were out of the way, Pete took the power washer to clean up the sidewalk and steps that had been underneath the ramp. At some point in the future, the whole porch and landscaping will be re-done, but dang, it looks so much better already.

Ending thoughts

This one was fun. If you ever have a chance to use a sledge hammer on something, I highly recommend doing so. I also recommend not picking a hammer that only Thor can use.
